I noticed that yesterday the Wall St. Journal reported that Verizon has announced plans to apply for a long-distance operating licence in India. Not much more was mentioned. Anyone heard anything else? On a side note, I wonder who they'll get to provide bad operators and customer service?

I'm actually suprised they haven't done this already.. Back when I had to set up a Work Release Program's payphones to accept AT&T Prepaid Calling Cards (the ones you purchase at WalMart and SamsClub), I ran test calls to the toll free numbers on the back of the prepaid cards...and sure enough, I was introducing myself to someone in India..uh oh, here we go again.

Don't know what you're complaining about, Bell Canada had been using these foreigners for ages to the point that there's an email circulating up here that if Canada doesn't stop threatening India about controlling their borders, India will recall all the taxi drivers and Bell Canada Call Center operators.
