There is some opposition to this, but I'm sure it will go through. Other than one new start up (Viero) Alltel is all we have here. I'm sure Viero is being built with buyout in mind.

I am a contributor over at epinions. Reviews of Alltel's service tend to run the gamut from awful to pretty good.
It would not surprise me that, when the smoke & dust settles, we end up with 2 large LECs, maybe 6 CLECs and a handful of ILECs.

I was in Little Rock, AR- Alltel's corporate hometown 2 weeks ago when this was first gaining steam. Most folks there just see about 350 jobs leaving town and a really big office building staying empty, so they're all a little nervous, despite Big V's statements concerning 'Customer Service staff positions' staying in Little Rock. Scary stuff...
Sometimes the thoughts in my head get so bored, they go for a stroll through my mouth. This is rarely a good thing.

Interesting post. This becomes full Circle Politics.
I said this 25 years ago after they broke up the bell system.
If you would like to talk to a guy who worked 40 years for the system and his father who is dead who worked 50 years for the system this might give you an idea of how things evolve.
Ive been doing this for 25 years. I have noticed the changes and recorded them. 115 years later no one needs to be fooled.
