Well lets see. I have to pay Cablevision extra for Boost because with their basic service that touts 15 mb/s I only get 5-6 on a good day.

Boost is supposed to deliver 30 mb/s but with it I get around 16 which is about what basic is supposed to provide.

So I figure for 100 bucks a month I will get what their $49.95 Boost service is supposed to provide- 30 mb/s.

It's all BS marketing because if you read the fine print speeds are not guaranteed. No way will any subscriber ever see 100 mb/s except in the ads.

I have 10/2 Mbps service (10Mb/sec download, 2 upload). With "speed boost" I have 15Mbps download. I routinely clock over 20/5 on speedtest.net (best is 31/7). I ALWAYS get about 1Mbps tops from any download-intensive website, because they either have caps, too much traffic, or substandard connections.

The only time I was ever able to come close to maxxing out my 'lowly' 10Mbps cable connection was by simultaneously downloading 8 full-length HD movies. I got all 8 in less than 15 minutes.

If I had a true 100 Mbps service and download rate, I would be getting full length movies in less than 15 seconds. Nice, but even as impatient as I can be I can wait a few minutes to get a movie.

I can see a very limted few who could take full advantage of a 100Mbps service.

Great link, sph. No offense intended, but 100M service for the average (or even exceptional) user seems an awful lot like installing cat6 cabling for telephones.

Well, never say never smile
If 100mbits becomes entrenched, methinks someone will find an application (or a 1000) for it.
But for now, it just shows that FIOS is putting the cable cos into a defensive posture.
