Didn't mean it as a knock on you. More of a comment on the sad state of affairs in my area.
We have to deal with a lot of small businesses looking for the low ball. $55-60 an hour and have to watch out for the guy charging $40 an hr that works weekends cause he has another job during the week. [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

Don't run into that on my big switches. That's one of the reasons we are seriously considering getting out of any serious key system sales. They are 90% of the headaches and 10% of the revenue. Everything in the low price range seems to be like a street auction against joe blow working out of a trunk of a car.

$116/hr min 1 hour.

Coral, I agree with you on today's key system market. We too have been traditionally a PBX vendor, selling mostly high-end applications to mid-large business and govt. These days, the only action out there is in key systems. In order to compete with the 'trunkers', we have to practically do these deals at cost. We do get a lot of business from customers who are later abandoned by these same guys though.

in the city, I usually feel out the customers b4 I shoot the price but the range is 75-150 per hour at 1hr min. since there so many companies and side show bobs out here we try not to stick to a flat rate. If your a real good tech and you do everything quick companies usually dont mind coughing up the 150 per hour for you. service calls usually dont take more than an hour unless your trying to get the receptionists phone number [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com] atleast that what i do

My employer is charging $120/hr. This is up from the $82.50 previous for the last 5 years. As I watch the customers fleeing, he complains about not making any money.

$350/1st hour for NYC work doesn't sound so steep when you think about it. Just getting a tech into the city can take over an hour, then parking, etc. My Chicago Loop customers don't blink an eye at $116/hr + parking expense, even the copier service companies charge more.
