I am new to Executone phones and systems. This board looked to be the premier spot for Executone help. I have a new customer that is having problems with his Executone Medley and Model 64 Phones.
He has a problem dialing 1 when dialing calls and when connected to another businesses auto attendant. For example, Dialing 1-800-555-5555, the 1 tone does not register on the line. This does not happen all the time but often enough to be a problem. Most important example, calling the phone company, auto attendant answers, Press 1 to pay your bill, he presses 1, the tone does not register with the attendant. This happens about 99% of the time on any auto attendant.
He has 5 Model 64 phones, all with identical problem. Only 2 phone lines for the system.
I hope this description was clear enough.
His former tech told him it was a power problem and sold him a battery back up. With enough battery power to keep a 40U rack running for an hour. Did not solve the problem.
The tech wants to sell him a refurbished Executone Medley to fix the problem. The customer is not interested in forking over more money to the tech.
What are your recommendations as to where to start? Are there manuals floating around for this system?
Thank you in advance for the help.

Use a digit grabber to see what the Medley is putting out when dialing. It's most likely an issue with the CO lines themselves. Are they true 1FB lines or is there some type of VOIP conversion going on before they get to the system. Medley only has a setting for increasing the Receive Volume on the lines. Nothing for Transmit.

good point about the lines by mc601. other thing you can try is call your cell and then press 1 several times and see what you will hear on the cell, then press 2 and so on, at this point you should hear some difference between different digits. Are all phones having the same problem?
Executone super tech.

I haven't worked on a Medley in a long time, but I think I ran into the same problem on one of them a long time ago. If my memory is correct, I believe it turned out to be a weak DTMF receiver/sender in the Medley. I still have a paper copy of a manual. If you haven't been able to find one, email me thru this site, and I'll see if I can get a copy to you (They aren't large).
