My upper-level has asked me to review recovery options for failure of our IDS 108. We aren't in the market to replace it (12 POTS, 70-some extensions with m32s & m28's(?), switchboard crt, nothing fancy on the software side (no ACD groups, etc). 2 DVAs. VX2 voicemail 4 ports.
We also want to provide more auto-attendant features vs. using a live receptionists.
I'm curious if call-routing / AA can be handled by outside means (*box or hosted pbx) which would forward inbound calls + extension number.
or...any other thoughts to build something around our current (albeit well paid for) IDS 108 which has worked proudly for over 20 years.
Open to all constructive input. Thanks!

If you have DVA's then it sounds like you have the option for AA. See main menu to see if active feature. Or you can use the VX2 CCR (Auto Attend) and build options in it. If you need more technicial help send PM.

I agree with mc601 - you may already have more AA functionality than you know.
But, to answer your question - yes, the IDS can support an AA using an outside device. How you set up the interface can be a challenge. Easiest would be to have the outside device simply act as the AA/VM instead of the VX2. You simply have it emulate a VX2 and you're good. Dozens of other scenarios are possible - REALLY depends on exactly what you want to accomplish. Good luck! Mike

There is a backup procedure for your voicemail to aid in your recovery. It involves multiple floppy disk backups. Someone else may have a better solution.

to backup your voicemail all you need to do is take the drive out and copy it through another computer. it is DOS program so any windows software will see it. this way not only you are backing up the files, but you can use it to create another drive as a backup or buy my Flash Drive. Phone system needs to backup as well. Your 3.6V battery will fail so it needs to be replaced and you will need me for the options to be reloaded. You can create 99 CCR's and many sub choices, so if you need help with it, let me know. Hope this helps a bit.

yes you can handle the call routs through Asterisk, we are doing it now. there are few problems with setting this up, but we did it. we even have remote phones through Asterisk set up off of executone system. the capabilities are endless. you will have to do it on T1 cards. I have parts and ability to supply you with software and anything else needed to make this work. There has to be a certain version of Asterisk to make this work. Find me and we can talk more about this.
