I recently noticed that our Axxess voice mail system (version 5.118) will receive incoming faxxes and forward them to an e-mail address designated in the mailbox information, but I have been unable to get any mailbox to recognize an incoming fax. How do I do that? I would like to set up a mailbox that is always in incoming fax mode. Is there a way to do that?

Do yo have DID numbers that people are trying to fax in on or do you have just a couple of incoming fax lines that you are trying to route to the right mailbox. There is a couple of ways of doing this, but I have only seen it set up one way. Give me your situation and I will try to help you out if I can.

I have DID's I would like to route to unassociated mailboxes to create dedicated fax mailboxes for several individuals. In other words, I am wondering if I can use Axxess as a fax server as well. I do have one incoming analog line that I could use as a fax line, but that would only serve one person with an individual number, and my understanding is that I would need a special card to handle that. Thanks for the sharing what you know.

What solutions can you recommend? Thanks for any help you can share.

I guess I should of also asked you if: 1. These are a dual purpose DID meaning, someone could fax this DID and or it can be a voice call to there phone. 2. If its just a dedicated fax DID.

If its a dedicated fax DID, you need to route that DID to a "Call Routing Announcement". This will have to be a new CRA because it will serve this one purpose for this one DID. In other words you cant create a new CRA (call route annc) to handle all the incoming faxes if they are to go to different places. In the CRA you want to put the persons email address at the "Fax Delivery E-Mail Address" spot. In the "Day Greeting" and "Night Greeting" spot you want to only have a 10 second delay. This is so the system can wait for the incoming fax. This can get a little confusing and there is more involved in making this work but I am assuming that your voicemail is properly integrated to your server.

I dont know if the above information is what you are looking for but on a different note, in programming, go to the persons mailbox and under the "Fax/E-Mail Forwarding" ther will be "E-Mail Gateway" if it says disabled choose "Unified Messaging". This for Axxess versions 5.1 and above. Do you know what version you have. The lower versions are somewhat similar.

This will be a dedicated fax DID. We have Axxess version 5.118. I have done everything you have suggested. Sounds like we are on the right track (I had already set up a CRA, but I certainly never would have guessed about the delay.), but system still not recognizing incoming fax. In the CRA the only setting I have made in the digit translation is setting the time-out to transfer to the desired mailbox. Is that the right thing to do? What do I do next?

There is a proprietary fax board that is required in the VM in order to make this work. Otherwise, the programming is right on and the version number will accommodate what you are trying to do. The other thing you need to do is to load an email client like MS Outlook on the VM. You also need to create an account using the PC Name as the log in ID and Exchange ID. It can be pretty messy as you can see.

I set one up on a Nortel switch and not sure this applies. We used Brooktrout fax boards for inbound and outbound faxing with a line side T1 to the switch from a fax server running Windows. It would then allow us to forward inbound faxes based upon the CID number to an individuals e-mail box in Microsoft Outlook.
The Nortel did not have a card that connected to the voicemail. We had DID fax numbers setup and routed them to the loop that the fax server was connected to.
Anyway good luck
