You need software and a special cable. I can help you with the pinouts for the laptop if you dont already have them, but the software I cant do.

By reading the manual they say the software is only for standalone programming. I want to be directly connected. Do I still need the software? If so how can I get it? Also I would be interested in the Pin Out. Thanks <font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by RCA: You need software and a special cable. The software is used for direct connection and for remote programming. You need it and there is only one kind of software.
Here is the pinouts:
**DB9 female laptop side** PIN 1 = Red PIN 2 = Black PIN 3 = Green PIN 5 = Yellow PINS 4,6 are shorted PINS 7,8 are shorted (this can also be used for the AXXESS)
**DB9 male system side** PIN 1 = Red PIN 2 = Black PIN 3 = Green PIN 5 = Yellow PINS 4,6 are shorted PINS 7,8 are shorted
Use a straight through cable between connectors. Note: This cable could be pinned out differently but this way allows you to use the DB9 female for the AXXESS.

I dont know where one would get it for free if thats what your asking. There is tons of online phone system manual sites that will gladly help you for a fee.

RCA - Thanks for the input but you didn't read the post...I bought a manual. I was referring to the admin software, and since then I have that as well, but am still experiencing a problem connecting. I have tried both via direct connect and modem I get to the part were it is attempting to do a ASAI connection and it stops their. I also tried all baud rate XONN/XOFF and switch over to HARDWARE. Still no luck. Any thoughts.. <font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by RCA: I dont know where one would get it for free if thats what your asking. If your getting the ASAI part then your almost there. On the back of the AXXENT cpu wich serial ports are you trying to use? By default its the one on the left. On the back of the CPU (if it has voicemail) there should be a card that has two serial ports on it. To the left (same card) is a keyboard connector. Dont use this card for connection. This is a voicemail board. Above this card and to the left should be the serial port your plugged into.
The back of these cabinets changed with version changes so its hard to tell you exactly what it looks like.
The baud rate is 9600 for modem and direct connect.

RCA - That is the one I am using. I noticed that on the front panel I have a red LED for "DATABASE ERROR" also the green LED to the Right only flashes about every 10 sec...is that normal? <font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by RCA: If your getting the ASAI part then your almost there. The green led should be on solid. Anything alse is not right. I have never seen a green Cpu Active light flash. Does this Axxent have voicemail? And if it does, it should have the short DB9 to DB9 cable going from one serial port to another. This shouldnt matter but I want to eliminate any possible problems.
One thing you might want to try is open up the CPU and reseat all the boards inside the cabinet. Smetimes these come loose and cause all sorts of problems. The important board to make sure about is the memory board. Its above the station and line boards and its alot smaller. It should be just below that purple CPU battery. This board needs to be seated just right or any type of problems could arise.
