Are there any issues using Windows XP with the older software, 4.4 or Axxent 2.0 ? I have a new laptop with XP Pro. and i can log in just fine, make changes no problem, but when i save the database, it always locks up at the same place, 7% into it. I thought at first it was my com port, so i tried different settings, nothing. Even when i remotley (dial in offsite)log into any of the older software systems it locks up, so i ruled out the com port. Versions 5.1+ are fine. In WinXP i also tried changing the program to work like a Win95/98 system and still it locks up, only when i save the database. Any ideas? Any patches out there?

I just set up my new Dell laptop with Axxess software going back to 2.0 and Axxent 2.0. I haven't had any issues with connections, programming, or saves at this point. The Dell we got does have a built in serial port. Some of our other laptops use a USB to serial converter and they have had issues with connectimng and with saves.
Good luck.

Thanks for your input. I narrowed it down to the laptop itself. Just got to figure out how to fix it.

Funny, I just e-mailed Inter-Tel Tech Support on basically the same issue. Axxent DB Programming stops at 7% under M$-Windows 2000 Professional too.

Previously, one Support Specialist told me a KB article lists it as compatible. However, at the time I had not attempted using it in a while and could not remember the exact trouble I had experienced.

I will follow up here with their response. However, I have a feeling it may have to do with NTFS permissions with regard to writing beinning to write the saved file to the HDD. Since the Axxent DB Programming Application S/W is pre-NT/2000 and designed for M$-Win9x, this would make sense. Hopefully, they have a work-around!

I was starting to think it was just me.

I upgraded my home desktop to Win XP Pro but i think i didnt change the file system, left it fat i believe, and it WAS able to save the database on my Axxent (home system used for testing). So at this point i really want to hear what tech support has to say. Dr. Dialtone, if and when you hear something, it would be great if you could follow up here, I would appreciate it.

I tried using a com port monitoring software utility program to see why the XP laptop hangs at 7% and had no luck. The utility just shows the port (axxent) closing down. On a lighter note, I am able to down load the error logs without any problems, weird.

When used on other systems like a Panasonic KXTD 1232, it communicates very slow. It takes a long time for the XP laptop to go into station or system programming. I tried saving the database on the KXTD 1232 and it took a very long time, 1/2 hour.

I was thinking of making this a dual boot laptop (XP and Win98 ?)to solve the problem but dont know if it will.

OK I got it to work. When I originally installed the Axxent programming software, i made a new folder under the C: drive and installed it there. I got to thinking what you wrote - Quote by Dr,Dialtone "I have a feeling it may have to do with NTFS permissions with regard to writing beinning to write the saved file to the HDD" So i uninstalled the software and reinstalled the software in the "Documents and Settings" folder, wich is an all user type of folder, and sure enough i was able to completely save an Axxent database. Now that I or we know its a security/permissions type issue, im not sure how to fix it. I guess it doesnt matter that i leave this program in this folder because i am the owner/only user of this laptop, but i would like this software in another folder. Any ideas?

I am wondering if the problem could be caused by the structure of the NTFS file system. I noticed when I changed my file system from FAT32 to NTFS on my Windows XP machine that several programs would not run correctly. It seems I could not save some type of files and could not open some I had previously saved in FAT32.
