I'm sure all you can do is put one ahead of the system. The lamp will indicate busy when in use, but you'll have no system features.

X-Blue said they had no plans to adapt the 6 button cordless used on the 45P for the X-16.
As justbill said, you can common one to the dial tone and it will light up the light on the phones so no one jumps into your call.
But also, if you wanted a different answering message on one or more lines, you can put an answering machine on the line and have the X-16 VM answer at least one ring cycle after the answering machine.
In a home with two house lines and two lines for two kids you could have an answering machine on line three for one kid that picks up in 20 seconds, an answering machine on line four that picks up in 20 seconds and let the system answer lines one and two in 30 seconds.
This is like going back to the good old days when we used cut off switches and diode matrix and had to figure everything out for ourselves.
