You have probably resolved this issue, but I installed an iwatsu system with a T1 to a Cisco. I assumed the Cisco would not provide clock sync so I set the Iwatsu T1 to generate 'master clocking'. Worked like a champ. The PBX configuration was set to Tie Line operation. Private Tie Line configurations often provide for a local clock source.
The point is - it's a lot easier to set the connected PBX as the clock source, not the Cisco. I like Cisco gear, but they made a phone system that requires a degree in astro physics. Its easier to become a Navy Seal than understand the call manager...

VCE in this case I am the CO, providing a T1 from my 5ess..so they always need to clock from me shocked ). Thanks for the tip though. My problem is not so much with Cisco as it is the arrogance of a lot (NOT ALL) but a lot of IT managers installing these systems. I take pleasure in proving them wrong.

I know you can set master/slave clocking when using QSIG PRI.

I have seen it done, I linked a Samsung to Cisco via PRI QSIG, and on the web interface for CM there was an option for master/slave clocking on the PRI, along with coding method (in our case HDB3 and CRC4).

Can't remember where it was as I am the samsung tech not the cisco one, but i was looking over the shoulder of the cisco guy

Its not easy to get a job with Cisco but you cant blame the Cisco brand because every Partner or independent Cisco guy isnt an expert. I know I have received plenty of calls to work on Norstar and Avaya because the last service company sent a tech that was lacking in knowledge and ability. Was Avaya or Nortel to blame for that?
I know the biz owners here have all experienced gaining a customer because the last tech was no where near your level and the cust recognized it right away. Many become long time cust because of it.

Just my 2 cents.

Here is an example being LINE PRIMARY as deriving clock from the telco.

controller T1 0
framing esf
clock source line primary
linecode b8zs
pri-group timeslots 1-24

No doubt there are a lot of people in high paying positions that dont know much but they have higher ups convinced they do.

I see it all the time.

They call me for help and I make half what they do.

Im not jealous.
They have just positioned themselves better than I have and I have no problem with it.

Some are really good at what they do and worth every dime they make.

Even the fakers have to feed their children.

Its nothing to worry about. The guy may know a lot about something else and T1 may not be one of his areas of expertise.

Ive been a phone guy for 25 years and just this year have learned to debug ISDN at L2 and L3.

We all have our strong areas.

Mine are fishing and Grillin.
