Just quoted a 42 phone SBX with the 16 port expansion cabinet and cards...anyone install these yet? We usually do not quote an SBX in this size range, but needed to. Anything to look out for?

Yes, I have one with all slots full. Not that many digital sets in use, but using lots of analog ports for fax server, modems, virt
ual extensions. Pay careful attention to how the 16 port digital card is configured. The stations don't pin out the same way the hybrid stations do. Both sets of pins drive a digital phone and the numbers run left to right for pins 4 and 5 and start left to right again for 3 and 6. In other works the extension numbers don't follow the normal color code if using the premade rj 14 cables. The label for the jacks is bit hard to read as well. Other than that make sure your connections between cabinets is screwed down tight and tie wrapped as well. The amphenols will back out if not secured really well. If that happens both cabinets lock up.

Yes. What Derrick said. I want to emphasize that you pay attention to the numbering of the expansion ports. The 1st station jack on the EKSU is x116 & x124. And remember, all 16 station ports are for digital stations only.

Brian, I suspect it was done that way to make it easier to swap out an old existing EKSU with the new one.

Stations 116-123 are in the familiar position (i.e. pair 2) and 124-131 are then found on the pair 1 positions.

The expansion cabinet comes with a 3x16 port digital card. The 3x8 expansion cabinet was discontinued quite some time ago. You can add a 3x8 card to the 16 port expansion cabinet for a total of 24 stations. The first 16 are digital only the last 8 are Hybrid ports. You can also add a second 3x16 port card to the expansion cabinet instead of the 3x8 card. This brings the complete system up to a total of 48 extensions.

By the way a PRI card is actually a 23x8 card. It has 8 hybrid station ports and uses the same slot as the first normal 3x8 card.
