I have a customer complaining of cell phones causing bleed over onto phone system lines. I have not heard it but will make it by soon. They are asking if there are filters on the market for this- Her complaint-
" Is there a filter available that would keep cellular signals from bleeding through to the system. In our office, anyone who leaves their cell phone on, picks up other cell signals, and it bleeds through into their desk phone. (This happens even if they are not connected to another caller via their cell – their cell just has to be turned on).

The result is that calls on our desk lines are interrupted by a buzzing from a neighboring cell phone ring.

If there is a solution to this, please let me know what it is and the cost"

Never heard of this ever . Are the onsite people using wireless headsets ?

Nextel phones cause this, even when not in use. As long as they are simply turned on, they can cause all kinds of chaos on wired phone systems. I have seen this many times. I have never seen any other type of wireless service cause this though. Have you asked the customer to question if the offending phones are Nextels? I'll bet you that they are.

LOL. I can walk through my office with my Nextime Crackberry on my hip and you can follow my path by the sound of the tortured PC speakers. I can tell in any of my vehicles when the phone is goin to ring because it distorts the FM radio reception. I'm with Ed on this..

We have had this happen with Cingular phones also.

If the cell phone is really close to the handset cord of the wired phone.

We use Cingular but on any of the phones that have Bluetooth activated, they will bleed. Most interference is noticed when the phone gets close to a computer speaker or if you set it too close to the stereo in the trucks.

You are probaly right with your Nextel problem . I just have never seen it cause those symptoms on our desk phones . We have hundreds on Nextel Black/Crack Berry users in our building . Strange , very , Strange . I guess we are just lucky . I did not know .

My first question to them was are they using Nextels as ours(before we cancelled them)would cause interference. However, they are not using Nextels.
The wireless blue tooth headset is suspect. I will ask tomorrow. They are gadget happy and I think this is a clue.

A lot has to do with how close you are to a cell site. All cell phones vary their RF output power and will just put out enough power to hit the nearest site. I have noticed with my Nextel that most times in my office it will cause no problem unless it is within a few inches of the PC speakers. Sometimes though, just sitting at my desk with the phone on my hip will cause noise to be heard from the speakers. I noticed that when this happens the signal level is low and probably the nearest cell site which is a mile or so away is off line.

I also echo the observation that blue tooth enabled devices are prone to this, at least with audio devices and PC speakers.

Unlike Ed I have never seen either of these affect any phone or system though. What system are we talking about here?
