Hi everyone

We have a set of DT-730 IP phones, which we use with an NEC SV8100 PBX. We're looking at using a few of these with an Asterisk system.

Out of the box, the DT700 series phones won't talk "open SIP", and so they won't work with Asterisk. But the DT700 resource manual does mention that the phones can be converted from NECI firmware to Standard SIP Firmware. (Here's the document):

The problem is, I have no idea how to find the standard SIP Firmware (itlissipv.tgz). It doesn't seem to be on any of NEC's support sites. The only way that it looks like it can be obtained, is by connecting the DT730 up to an NEC Sphericall system. Because Sphericall supports open SIP, it will re-flash the phone automatically.

I suppose at that point the firmware could be downloaded from the phone using NECs IP Phone Manager software.

Does anyone have any pointers or suggestions on how we can convert the phones? We know that it's possible - it's just a question of getting the right firmware!

Thanks in advance,

Tom

I would advise to just order the third party SIP license.

Well, DrPb x's answer doesn't really answer the original question. A 3rd party SIP license gets installed on the NEC phone system and allows one to use a 3rd party SIP phone (one that wasn't made by NEC) to be use on the NEC phone system.

However, Tom is trying to make his NEC DT730 to work with Asterisk phone system and thus needs to change the firmware on the DT730 for it to support open SIP standard, not just NEC's.

I also wanted to do this some time ago, but couldn't find the said firmware and it wasn't high priority, so I never pursued. But I'm still interested, so if someone here can come up with the firmware...

It's on the NECNTAC website.

I'm sorry I read the question in reverse.

I'm kind of puzzled as to why you would want to do this. Does the Asterisk provide the same features with the DT730 as the SV8100 or do they just become a dumb IP SLT??
