One of our clients recently added a new location that came with a Comdial DSU II phone system, and what I think is a vvp voicemail system, Its a computer sitting on shelf near to the PBX, connected with a serial cable and I believe 2 phone cables to the PBX. Updating the phone system to meet their needs has proven to be pretty strait forward (well written phone system manuals). However now some of the staff have changed and they need the after hours AA changed, and a VM Box added, and I'm having a terrible time trying to find documents on how to get to admin config on this external Voice-mail machine.
So for the Questions: Can any one tell me how Admin is done on one of these systems (handset, Computer?), and does anyone have any Programing manuals for this Voicemail system, or can you point me to somewhere I can find the needed tools to manage this VM/AA system?
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum! The Voice Mail can be administered through the handset of any phone on the system or through the PC itself. It is easier if you have a monitor and keyboard installed. Manuals are readily available for the VM/AA maintenance.

Rather be fishing,
Can you shoot me a link to find the manuals (or if I'm missing needed info to know what manual I need tell me that to), Normally when a client asks me to take a look at a system I haven't worked with before a quick google search and I'm off running, but I've been looking for quite a wile and am really having trouble finding stuff. If I have my facts strait Vertical owns Comdial now right? I looked through all the Vertical repositories and they really don't have much for the systems they've taken over, I am a partner so I can call their tech if I need to, I just figured the maintenance manuals shouldn't be this hard to find.

You might try calling the sponsors of this website. Also---I just googled "vvp voicemail" and Usedphones came up, eBay came up---and a bunch of other things came up. Shouldn't be that difficult.
Is the VVP a Keyvoice product?? My old hardcopy Keyvoice installation manual was for the VPS (Voice Processing System). It's from about 1991 or so. Just curious.

If you are a partner all the manuals are on teh Vertical website Vconnect. They are all right there if you are a dealer you can get all you want.

@ComdialJim, thanks that is helpful, I am a vertical partner, just didn't have access to the CCC portal.
Now that I have some idea what I'm trying to do, I'm still running into some difficulty.
Looking at the back of the VVP box, it looks like there is a PS1 connector on the computer, and there is a PS2 connector on the add in card that has the 2 serial ports. Because I don't have a PS1 keyboard, I tried using a ps2 in the add in card, but after restarting the system I still couldn't get any response to key presses. Is that what you all would have expected or am I missing something?
If I remember the setup, they are using ext 10-21 for phones, and only have VM set up on 10,12,15, and 18, then the VVP monitor shows a VM Box for 24,25 (which are the extensions used to connect the DSU II to the VVP) 40,45,70,75,888. According to the manuals I got from Vertical 70 is the default admin box but when I try to dial into it, the response is a series of beeps just about one a second, and then it disconnects. I tried dialing into the other extensions, and it says ext 40 does not exist, but the others either have the same series of beeps, or just a steady tone. Can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong in attempting to access the Admin Mailbox like this? is there a better way to do it?
To recap 1. Must I have a PS1 Keyboard or is there a way to enable the ps2 in the expansion card? 2. From my explanation of the Mailbox layout, Can any one tell me if I was using the correct method of attempting to log in to the Admin VM box, and if not where I went wrong? 3. Does anyone have the computer Software for using a laptop to do Admin on the VVP (or know if it runs on an xp)?
Thanks again for all your help!

Hi,
To answer your questions.
1. need ps1 keyboard 2. Normally yes but the installer must have changed some things so you have to get item one going before fixing item 2. 3. yes it runs on XP. It is on the CCC web site. If you are a Vertical dealer it is free and you can get access for free just call Vertical.
Hope this helps

If you're using IE and the CCC website sticks at Content Loading..., make sure Compatibility Mode is turned on as well.
