I have a 200Elx and when I try to access programming remotely via modem or locally it comes up but if I type 1 for VT-100, the one disappears so I press 1 and enter almost simultaneously which works and then I can do the same to select maint or cde but that doesn't work for username and password. It starts deleting what I type no matter how fast I type. It also looks like a tilde (~) flashing on the screen. I've tried hyperterminal and procomm with the same results. Doesn't matter what connection speed either. Is this a bad MCC or Bay or is it something else? Not run into this one before.

If it happens when connected direct, then there is an issue with the card I believe.

No console at this business on subs. Rebooted and tried with no luck. Waited and tried 30-45 mins later and it wasn't doing it anymore. ?????

Sounds like a modem setup issue or it has been scrambled. Have you tried having the customer reset the modem? When you access the system locally is the modem still attached?

Get down to basics. Remove everything except your laptop directly connected to the maintenance port of the EL.

Use Hyperterminal. Set it up for VT-100 emulation. 8-None-1 and use 9600 to start. No Flow control. Make sure the cable is a straight cable.

You should have no issues connecting. If you are still having problems, try another computer. We service a lot of Mitel El and I have never not been able to get into programming.
