The main phone in a small partner system is saying something about battery alarm. What is that? UPS or is there like a 9v battery in the system?

The system is telling you that the batterys in the control unit needs to be replaced.

What Mike said. Replace the batteries (standard AA ones) while the system's database is still intact. Batteries are you friend in these cases.
The battery compartment is at the very bottom of the system's processor module. Do it now!

If the processor is either an ACS R7 or R8, the battery alarm is more "FYI" than anything else. In the event of a power failure, the processor will boot-up (depending which option is selected) from either an internal saved configuration or, if present, the configuration found on the external PCMCIA card. For those processors, the AAA batteries serve no function other than to keep that message off of the system phone displays @ EXTs 10 & 11. For R1 through R6 processors, see Mike & Ed's replies above.

Two AAA batteries behind a sliding door on the bottom of the processor module. Look for the huge + and - symbols and the black sliding lock.
Replace with power ON, or programming will be lost.

If the processor is an R7 or an R8, the programming will not be lost as long as a current configuration is stored either internally or externally.

Thanks guys, I didn't wait for your responses. I just went over with a hand full of batteries and found the compartment. They were AAA bateries and kind of corroded. I cleaned it all up with a pencil eraser and put in new ones and the alarm went away. I then went home from there so I didn't get to respond to you all. I appreciate all the help.

Just keep in mind the key is to do it with the power on.
