We have decided to try our luck installing security cameras. We have installed 3 TP-Link IP cameras in the shop. All three can be accessed by IE, the TP-Link software, or Mozilla. All have a nice picture, and seem to work fine. Here's the problem. They only stay up for about 5-6 minutes, then the picture just "locks". To get back to the moving picture, I control-alt-delete and see in Task Manager that the program is not responding--I then end that task and go back in---and all 3 cameras are fine again---for 5-6 minutes.
One of my techs came in the shop with his lap-top and plugged into the network--and accessed the cameras---the cameras stayed up forever--just fine. We looked at settings for Mozilla and the TP-Link software on his laptop and tried to copy all of the settings to the PCs in the shop---but no change on them.
Can anyone here shed some light?? It appears it's some setting, we just can't figure it out.

Since I'm getting a "Program Not Responding" error message from Windows---maybe it's in some Windows program?? I'm using XP Pro SP3.

I was going to say the same thing. Check your power settings and disable your screensaver. I have found that some screensavers do not play nice when they kick in with some applications running and do exactly what you describe. Everything locks up.

I agree with Hal. We also had a similar issue with Vivotek camera's and the video card that was on certain dell laptops that our techs used it would cause issues when programming the motion windows, tried a different laptop and worked fine, called Vivotek and they said it was a video card compatibility issue.

Update: I've checked all of the settings for screensaver and power settings. All seem to be set "OK" . The screensaver is set for 120 minutes and all power settings and hibernation are disabled.
The cameras are still operating like they did---about 5 minutes and the the program locks up. I read an article somewhere and disabled many of the ActiveX features as they suggested. That didn't seem to do anything either.
The cameras still work fine---but only for 5/6 minutes, still. I'm wondering if there is a problem with the video card. I wouldn't think so, but I seem to be grasping at straws now.

One of my techs came in the shop with his lap-top and plugged into the network--and accessed the cameras---the cameras stayed up forever--just fine. There is obviously SOME difference in your techs computer and the one in your shop. If Mozilla will do it, load that. I'd say it is something with one of the security ports that IE is using, why it lets the data through for 5 minutes, I don't get. Are both computers on the same operating system? Are all network settings the same? Does Mozilla have some ports open that IE does not? I'm interested in what the end result is and the fix. You may have to set up your own SMTP server for the cameras. Jeff

There is obviously SOME difference in your techs computer and the one in your shop. For sure. I remember when that happened---he sat in his cubicle and told me what his settings were in Mozilla and in Windows. I had thought that we were going to be good to go when I made the changes in my PC----but no go. That was several weeks ago. I think I've changed settings in both Mozilla and IE. I've checked the settings in the TP-Link software set up, too. I guess it's time to start reading the directions---and to start all over.
