Hi there I hope I am posting in the right place!
We have a NEC Electra elite IPK II with 4 phone lines coming in from outside. 1 of them "doubles" as our fax line (Line 3).
How should we set it up so we can still get faxes? We can send faxes, but when receiving, the NEC system treats it as a regular phone call, rings to the Dterm phones, and all we hear is the fax signal.
The way the lines are wired in the building is, line 3 (fax line) comes in to the main terminal block, and it has a jumper that goes 1)to the NEC and 2) goes to the facility block and from there directly to the fax machine phone jack.
Thank you for your help!!!

You need a fax line sharing device, wired in in front of the phone system. There are all kinds for this.

Oh dear! I thought I could program the phone system to let fax calls pass through!
I will look for a fax line sharing device... is that what they're called?
Thanks!

If you want to just share the line for outgoing calls then you can program the system to not ring any phone on line 3 and let the FAX take all incoming calls.

metelcom's suggestion would work, or yeah any line sharing device will work just put the trunk into the input, run the phone the system and the fax straight to the fax machine.

+1 on turning off ringing on line 3.
On the older systems (Elite 48 and 192) if you were using a COI-4, you could actually bring dial tone in on the fourth pair and the system would pass it through onto pair eight which then connected out to fax machine. This way, when the fax was in use, the line key would actually light up showing the line was in use. Still have to turn off ringing on the sets.
Haven't used the feature in a while so can't recall if the feature works on the IPK and IPK II.

+1 on a line share device.
if you simply turn off the ringing, you run the risk of bumping a fax since there isn't a line appearance.
If you have any analog statio ports yo could always DIL to the fax machine.
