Yes, the EMPTY corresponds to the "E" pattern on the Call Routing Table.

There you go. The provider is probably at fault. If I were you I would pick one the fax numbers that fail and point it to an Axxess display phone. Send yer 'E' wildcard there as well and then test and try to come up w/ consistant failure.

The CO will return "the line is no longer in service" recording when trying to pass a call to an extension that is
1. out of service
2. off hook to system reorder tone
3. the extension is locked out from being off hook to long .
It sounds like your fax extensions are sometimes not releasing after the far end fax hangs up .

So could it be a combination of both things: carrier sending them too early or too late and the extension not releasing. Also, how can I fix the problem that the fax machines are not hanging up in time? I do appreciate everyone's help

The busy signals are the fax not being disconnected. The recording is the CO not sending, sending early or sending late DNIS digits. Some high end fax machines you can set the timer for disconnect, but other store bought brands are preset. The CO issue should also be happening with other numbers also and not just DID's to faxes. This is a problem they should be able to monitor and correct.

It has been narrowed to one office that is having problems with sending faxes to us. Our T1 (on the receiving end) does not have the preferred signaling for Inter-tel systems. We are set to have a new PRI installed in the somewhat near future with the correct signaling. Do you think this will help the problems? Or should I check into the telco on the sending end and the fax machines on the receiving end?

Being that it is happening from only one location , that opens a whole new can of worms . Are they by chance using a Ricoh model combination network printer with a brook trout fax board . Try to find out if they are using this model printer/fax there is a patch that needs to be loaded to the Ricoh software . The patch addresses these very same issues you are having with faxes tring to be sent to DID numbers residing on a T1 .

We do have a Kyocera 3035 with faxing capability which is also connected to the network for printing. I am not sure what kind of fax card is installed in it. The other fax machine they have is a Brother IntelFax 2920.
