Looking for some advice/experiences from any of you that have installed IP5000's using analog trunks only for incoming service. The few out there I'm aware of have had echo problems. These are all using IP phones hung directly off the 5000 in the office (not remote IP phones networked to the system). The 5000's using a PRI/T1 for service have been fine for the most part.
Anyone out there having similar issues? Would selling the 5000 with digital phones instead of IP phones avoid any of these echo issues? Does the latest software release improve this situation?
The built in networking capability makes the 5000 an attractive system to smaller businesses that may need IP networking in the future, but the echo issue is very troubling.
Thanks.

Echoing is a common complaint in any VOIP situation. Ver 1.2 is a very big improvement for the 5000 concerning voice quality. Make sure your trunks are attenuated at least -3db. Echo suppresion settings pre 1.2 are not supported, so don't bother w/ those unless you upgrade. Make sure your trunks are not too 'hot'. I have several 1.2 5000's installed w/ analog service and they sound excellent. Keep in mind that the DSP upgrades in 1.2 employ a 'learning' technology that resets every time you change the echo suppresion settings.

thanks for the info. any thoughts on whether or not using a digital interface and all 85** series phones improves the situation? or is that totally unrelated?
we have heard of users with echo calls putting the call on hold and then picking the call back up to no echo. not sure the meaning behind this occurance.

We try to push digital facilities on all VOIP apps, but the 5000 market size dictates alot of analog installations. T-1's always help on voice quality, but like I posted before, I've had great luck w/ analog service using ver 1.2.
The digital 85xx series fones sound great, I don't think I could tell them apart from the 86xx fones blindfolded though.
As far as putting a call on hold and not having echo after taking off hold, that probably has more to do w/ the echo cancellation DSP having more time to do it's work than anything else. I was very unhappy w/ the pre 1.2 f/w because you couldn't tweak the echo settings, though I currently have 5 5000's on pre 1.2 installed right now w/ no complaints.
