Has anyone had any issues with the Interchage "locking up"? I have 3 clients that it is happening to. I have contacted Comdial/Vertical and they want to point the finger at anti virus software, or some other software on the machine. I have removed all antivirus and any other unneeded software. You can reboot, and it will usually fix it for a week or so, or I can go into services and stop one service and restart it and that will fix it for a week or so. (I can't remember the specific service as I am not right in front of the machine now, but I remember it when I see it.) Anyway, anyone had this problem and figured anything out?

What version on interchange. w2000 or XP. Kind of need more details. Make sure windows time is turned off if services. Also when you say locking up do you mean whole PC freezes and you can not do anything or do you mean just voicemails stops but you can still move around windows?

It is Interchange 12.0 running on Widows XP. When I say the computer locks up, I mean the entire machine. You can get the screen saver to go off the screen, but that is it. We have to hold the power button to force a shut down, power it back up, then do a true restart or the services will not start. We have automatic updates off, and I have uninstalled the Antivirus software. I don't guess I understand what you are saying about the "Make sure windows time is turned off if services"

What I think Jim is saying go to srart, run and type Services. Look in the services tab for the service called "Windows Time" and disable it or stop it. What this service does is sync your pc's time with other servers on the network and this could be conflicting with the synchronization of the time between the voicemail and Comdial PBX which could in turn lock the voicemail pc up.
Jim correct me if I am wrong and thanks for the info on the DXP question.

Windows Time Service would only affect pre 12.0 systems as it would cause the serial link to drop when the network server controlling the time service would change the time on the Interchange to something other than the FX/MP5000 time. 12.0 and later did not use the serial link like the earlier releases. Interchanges were hard on hard drive resources and required frequent defragging.
Id defrag the HD and look at the event viewer for errors.

Yeah time thing was early version. Are you running disk keeper on the PC. I think it is a windows issue not the interchange per say. I have alot of interchanges out there and never seen this. Dave is correct defrag.

I have defragged the system. We also added some RAM to the system. No affect. It happens 2 or 3 times a week. I really think alot of it is the machine that Comdial used to run the software on. It is a very basic system. One of my larger customers was having this issue and provided a dual processor machine for me to load the software on. Once I did this, they never had the problem again.

I have also put in a cmd line to reboot the voicemail each night. This has also helped me on issues like this

Look at all the electrolitic caps around the processor on the pc motherboard. There were some interchanges that had this problem. If they look swollen at all you need to replace the motherboard or send it in for repair.
