If an AT&T Uverse is involved then my solution was to set the DMZ in the router to route to the phone. I had a problem with every U-verse modem when trying to use VIPedge service. Also same issue with DSL when using AT&T modem/router. had to put phone in DMZ or a second router.

"One last thought is that via EManager in the CIX40 go to IP-Telephony->IPT Data and select the CA extension. Try changing parameter 17 "IP NAT/No Peer to Peer to "Enable" (default is "Disabled". Sometimes a phone behind a NATted firewall will have this issue. From what I understand this setting causes the IP card to handle the voice packets as an intermediary devices vs an IP to IP peer connection. I would try this one first since it is very easy and can always be put back."
