Today I returned to work from a unintentionally long week of vacation (I was able to turn 4 days of vacation into 11! because of where Christmas and New Year's day fell). My last day was Dec. 21st. Our iDCS100 system ran without a hitch while I was gone, but low and behold; this afternoon it froze showing ver# and time, etc. I restarted the system and when it rebooted, everything had defaulted and auto-sensed. The wrong stations were ringing,we had no external paging, etc. I had to drag out my laptop and reload the latest known good file to the system. All was OK. But just as I went offline, and unplugged the serial cable the bloody thing locked up again. Fortunately, when I reset it all the programming was correct. I have mentioned this problem in a previous post and it has been suggested that the PSU may have a problem. How could it run perfectly for 1 & 1/2 weeks? Could the fact that when I set the current date and time, and it never advances accordingly have anything to do with this? Lastly, weeks ago when I had to reset the system, it always came back up with the correct programming. I think its possessed and just waited for me to return to work. Thanks

Do you know for sure the power didn't go off long enough for the MEM card with it's supercap to fail? That would give you a defaulted system and you would have to select the country, dial tone would have been abnormal.
All 100 power supplies are still under waranty, there was a mfg. defect. Almost all will go dead sooner or later, prophylacticly replace. And solder in a new supercap, they are not as good as you would hope.

Take a look at the caps on the power supply. If either one has a bulge where the "X" is on the top, it needs to be replaced.

Not to challenge Arthur, but the caps can fail without a bulge too. If you have a Samsung account, go to GSBN and do a repair ticket (RMA) for that power supply and send it back in.
You can find spare 100 PS around while repairing and it is worth having a spare around.

After reading your reply, I jumped over to Digi-key to find a replacement supercap. I have been planning to do this after some replies in previous posts of mine. Its a coincidence that you mention having to reset the country, etc. as I've had to do this before. Do you think the date and time not advancing can be attributed to the supercap not 'holding'? Also, you mentioned that the power supply should be under warranty. We bought the system used. Should this still be covered in your opinion? What do you think we can pick up a spare PSU for? Thanks.

They extended the warranties on all those old iDCS100s because of the design flaw. They are expiring though so your time is short. Do you have access to the GSBN to look the serial number up for it's warranty status?
