Recently installed a new paging system at a manufacturing facility. They had an existing Bogen tone generator that I will be replacing. They activate the tone by dialing intercom 5000. The set displays Alarm (they use this for evacuation purposes). Does anyone know if the contact closure has an ext number? 5000 is not a Hunt group. Just curiuos how they programmed this. I have worked on these Nortel systems for 15 years and I'm drawing a blank for this. My company does not work on this phone system, just cabling and PA. Thanks

It sounds like 5000 is an analog extension to me. The external contact can close when dialing an extension number if the option is turned on in Capabilities.

Thats what I was thinking but they have 3 digit dn's starting at 221. Can you have 4 digit ext's also?

No, you cannot. Maybe the extra 0 is a digit for the PA device? What happens when you dial 500?

5000 is probably set up as dest/route, accessing a loop/grnd start trunk thats interfaced with Bogen equipment.

It wouldn't be trunk if it causes the external ringer contacts to close.

Go to Maint and look at Port/DN status to see if there is a DN 500, that might give you a clue.

Well I installed the new tone generator yesterday. Funny thing is that the contact closure was not coming from the MICS. It was coming from a 66 block that runs to some IDF. I'm assuming that maybe it interfaces with an fire panel some way and uses a contact from it. Still not sure what ext 5000 is.

I am with the guys on this. Simply go through your line names and set names and to see which one is labelled "Alarm".
0 is default for a lot of devices as well.
