I am having a problem with the analog ports on a c class system. When I go off hook on ext 116 and dial 9 some time I get dial tone and sometimes I do not. I can't figure out why it doesn't do the same thing every time. I have checked the programming on the station and it all seems to be correct. Ext 117 which is programmed as a fax ext works every other time. Ext 116 is on the black brown pair on the first amphenol. Any ideas why it would act this way? Thanks.

Sure there was a line available to call out??
If there was then switch 116 and 117 and see if it follows.

Lines are always available, and ext 116 is set as phone type and ext 117 is set as fax type. I will try changing them.

When, exactly, is the dial tone delay? What you wrote is confusing. If you pick up the handset, and do nothing, do you have dial tone every time? If you are dialing 9 and waiting for dial tone, and you are getting dial tone delay, then you need to identify if you are hitting the same CO line.

Try putting all of the lines on hold and see if you get the recording that all lines are currently in use. Check your access for the trunk groups. You may be pulling a line from a group that has no dial tone. Verify that you have dial tone on every line outside of the system. I would take the system out of the equation and use your but set to simulate the system. If you can determine that your lines are fine, then there is something else - like the analog is set to dial (9) and you are actually dialing two digits. I know there is a very short delay if the port is a modem - drives credit card machines crazy!!!

Most probably you have a CO line programmed in the dial 9 group that does not have CO dial tone. Check all CO lines for dial tone and check F21 to make sure you don't have CO lines programmed in the dial 9 group that don't belong.
