We have an issue with port scanners on our inter tel. I am compiling a list of all the ip address' for our ip phones. I then plan to only allow the ip address' for our ip phones.

A tech came out last week and said that our error 114 and 112 are because the dynamic memory is getting overflowed and crashing the system and that is why we need to restart often. He said upgrading our 512mb flash card to a 2gb flash card will help.

My question is, will we really need this upgrade if we block out the port scanning? He also added on a bunch of other features, including a system upgrade. All of which totals over $5000.

Here's the list he sent me:

I would think, if anything, we would only really need the 2gb flash card and the upgrade to 5.1. Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

The mods will probably remove the prices, but they don't seem to be out of line.

I'm a proponent of staying current with software releases. You're way behind at version 1.2, which was full of bugs anyways.

As to the other options, research what they are and if you have a need for them. If not, don't buy 'em.

The 8 hours labor seems a bit excessive; ask for specifics. I did 30-something 5.1 upgrades last year. None took more than an hour, and we did them during lunch breaks.

Are you using the 8600 series phones? We had the same issue. Moving the IPs to specific range, and then excluding that range from the scans, fixed the issue. I have the 2G card, and I'm running 5.1. It wasn't the PBX that was locking up. It's the phones. The 5300 series phones do not suffer from the same issue.

the scans are usually looking for open sip ports, which the version 1.2, while not supporting third party sip devices, does have an open port on 5060 by default. Most issues go away if you set sip port to off in system programming.
