We just installed a Wave 2500. Some of the employees have made a mistake of dialing 911 already. The customer would like to set up dialing rule to all area codes without a "1". They would like for the Wave to dial long distance automatically if it doesn't see an area code that is not local. Has there been a thread to help me set up the rule? We have tried numerous rules on our in-house system, and all have failed. Any help or comments is appreciated.

Under general settings I believe is a box for "must dial trunk access code for 911". Check that and the user would have to dial 9,911 for emergency services. This worked for us.

We have suggested to the customer to use that, but they want to be able to dial 10 digits to any area codes, and have the Wave prepend the 1 to the long distance numbers.

Use a different digit for regular outbound calls, 8,7,6 etc. Requiring a TAC to dial 911 isn't really advisable as you can train the employees to do it, but what if someone is there that isn't familiar to the concept and tries to dial 911? Sure you could hang signs by every phone etc. but it's just messy imo and in an emergency all you are thinking about dialing is 911 not X911 even if prompted to during training or by way of signage.

To attach a 1 in front of long distance numbers the rule would have to apply all of the time so not going to happen. Theoretically if the telco just goes ahead with the 1 and they dial 10 digits all of the time you could do it but again this just turns into a mess. If you want to try it you just have to add 1 to the prepend digits in the access profile's routing table but it's easier to tell them to live with it like they have been since they had phone systems.

Just tell them after the second dial tone to dial just as like they do at home 1+ area code + the number.
