Hi, I've installed couple dozen DSX systems and love them for their reliability.
My next client wants to get 4 SIP trunks and one CO line for fax and backup.
His software developer reccomended Vitelity and fortunately DSX works with them, Ive never configured DSX with SIP before so I got one SIP trunk for testing purposes.
Here is all problems I discovered,
Vitelity does not offer "call hunting" is there a way to route a call within DSX?
Vitelity can send up to 30 simultaneous calls on one SIP trunk thru so called channels, when i programmed DSX lines 9 thru 12 with the same SIP trunk number I can receive or place 4 simultaneous calls (limited to 4 by licences), I can't figure out how it works?
When incoming call comes in, two feature keys for L11,L12 will flash, if i answer the call by pressing a line key L12 and place a call on hold, next call will ring on L10,L11 pressing any line key L9,L10, L11 will answer the call and so on.
When I listen on 232 port thru Hyper Terminal, each answered call will create two entry lines showing line number, CID, time,RNA and when call is complete one more entry.
It proves that each incoming call comes on two lines. I see a way around by placing all lines under a Line Group key which will solve the visual problem for the user, but if someone asks for call accounting software it will never work.
Am I doing something wrong?
By the way, thanks to ttech for pointing out on reverse 6-pin cable I would never figure it out myself.

If Vitelity can't put the customers calls into a hunt how is the DSX going to know there is a 2nd call? It can't!

You need a different SIP provider.

You are trying to use line keys in a digital (SIP) environment. Time to switch to loop, line pooling and park keys and dial 9 to get out.

DSX tech support said the same thing, but in reality DSX does know there is a 2nd call and third and fourth and all of them come in thru one SIP trunk (one number. It is also true for outgoing calls, I'm able to make 4 simultaneous calls.
I don't have any CO lines connected to DSX.
It doesn't make any sence, but it is working
If you are curious I can let you connect to the system so you can see for yourself.

I'm using line keys to simplify a user experience.
Employees very often can't remember a simple call transfer feature and instead screaming out loud " John, pick up line1"

Actually all you are doing is catching channels not "lines". So relabel the park keys as lines and have them depress them and say John you have a call on Park..err Line 2. When you jump to DID numbers (yes SIP lines are DID) you enter into a new level of phone system configs. SIP doesn't have trunks it has "channels" that come from an IP source of some kind. Precisely what is the problem you are having?

Find out what digits they are sending and point it to 499 (which does not exist in the system numbering plan) and it may change to key ring.

SIP trunks by nature are pretty much like PRI circuits. You have Numbers coming in not lines those numbers have to point somewhere.

They are not designed to be used in a PBX rather than a key system. Sip trunks on a DSX act like a PBX as Coral Tech Said

Thank you everyone. I Will do some testing and should do more learning.
Could you recommend a good book or website on how this whole voip world works?

The DID that I have on a DSX,s will act like a key system. If you have 8 active channels put in 8 kine keys, designate the digital trunks as 1 - 8. Send DID,s to group, vm pilot or they can key ring. Or Dil to ext. Still square key system.
