just about every other day, my Axxess 4.4 has been dropping the connection to the voice mail.

cables are all tight, and a reboot of the voicemail box usually solves it.

the voice mail box is running NT

other then a cable I am not sure what to check next.

Probably the VM service is ceasing to run, rather than a physical cabling issue. I would check the task manager to see what processes are running, you may have a virus or some sort of malware. If there is no AV s/w running on the machine, I would get it on there pronto. If there is, make sure it's updated and do a scan. I would also download Spybot and Ad-Aware, have them updated w/ the latest signitures, then reboot in safe mode and run those programs. It's also possible the HD or some other hardware is failing.

the Voice mail box is a standalone machine its not on a network.

it was a clean install just for the purpose of using as a voice mail machine.

thats why I Rule out viri or spyware.

Everyday now like clockwork this thing drops the connection between the KSU and the voicemail.

I am trying to swap the CPU128 with a spare I have. hopefully it solves the problem.

I don't think its an AIC card going out, because I get an unplugged message. I would suspect the AIC card if there was no audio after dialing the axx talk app.

My guess is that the problem is going to be in the computer, not the cabinet. Do you have SMDR running? If so do you have an error report dumping there as well? If not you'll want to turn on that feature. I have my doubts that you will find the problem there, but it should at least be checked. Next you also need to check the Watchdog log on the AxxessoryTalk machine. You might find the problem there.

You said a reboot normally fixes the problem. I take that to mean that the machine is still up and running at the time you find that it's not responding. If so go in and check AvdapMon just to see if you see any errors.

I can not get into the avdapmon. Its asking for a password, and I do not recall setting one during install.

when I check the watchdog log I keep seeing the same entries over and over,

watchdog setting maximum soft resets to 5
watchdog setting hardware watchdog to AIC
watchdog Starting watcher thread for service[avdap]
avdap intial startup

If no password has been set, just press the enter key to bypass the request. Are you seeing "Detect Initial Tickle" at the end of the Watchdog log?

Well, there are several likely culprits here. 1st, you say it was a clean install of NT, did you have the voicemail cards inserted when installing NT? If so, this is likely the source of the problem. 2nd, when the connection fails, have you tried restarting the Avdap to see if the mail connection comes back up? If so, try re-installing the VM s/w w/ the Avdap service completely shut off. 3rd, have you tried the second serial port on the machine to eliminate a computer serial port problem? If not, give that a try; also consider swapping out the line cord and the adapter that is plugged into the voicemail. 4th, do you have Unified Messaging installed on this machine? If so, try uninstalling it and rebooting to try to isolate the problem.

If none of these solutions pan out, I would probably reinstall NT and Avdap and see if the problem goes away.

Unified messaging is not installed.

I don't recall if the cards where in place or not. the system has been up and running with no problems for almost 2 years. the only change in the system since then is the addition of an IPRC card.

I kept seeing the same alarm message in the logs.

ASAI]215 alarm: pc->68k 002: ee 24 -- reqack

along with alarms 331, 207, and 214.

Lonewolf, I'm not sure why you're not seeing the tickle, maybe superfoneguy can shed some light on that. But my gut feeling is that this is more of a computer issue than an Avdap issue.

Chasing ghosts is always a pain as we can't make the problem happen. Which brings to mind a question. Is there ANYTHING that we can say precedes the problem? Does it happen at a regular time of day? Even though you're not on a network, do you have any AV running? I'm not saying you need it, I'm saying since you're on a stand alone machine you should disable it.

Also, run a chkdsk /f You could have some drive issues (we see that and the AV issue causing daily failures on some of our video servers). Lastly, as mentioned earlier, change the modtap if you have one, and if it's available try using a 4 pair phone cable. I know the extra pairs shouldn't matter but I've had two systems that it did. Probably a different modtap issue, and it if it works once it should work all the time, but I ALWAYS keep a good 4 pair for troubleshooting.
