Noob poster here, so be kind. smile

Two problems, but I'll start with what seems the most simple first.

Here's the scenario: System/228 with Infostar VX, 12 active users. VMS works fine for 11 users. The 12th user can enter password, check messages, etc., but does NOT get the system prompts to change personal options (dial 3) or check delivery (dial 4). Obviously, it used to work, but doesn't now. Is there any way to reset this user's mailbox to get those two options back? (The last person who serviced the system has died, and we don't know the password for the manager's mailbox, if that makes a difference.)

Thanks in advance,

Brian

Sounds like something got changed in the mailbox or it may be corrupt. If corrupt you would need to delete it and add it back into the system which would require the managers mailbox password.
You can enter a new manager in the system while it's off line from the terminal then use that mailbox to reset the main managers mailbox password. If you would like remote support feel free to send PM via the system with a phone number I can contact you at.
And if there is a phone close to the voice mail terminal I can walk you through looking as some things. If we have to add a managers mailbox to gain access we would have to take voice mail off line (no access) to take care of that.

Also just remembered this. Did user recently reset their password? If so have them use the Old one as I think they went in and changed the Guest mailbox password. Guest in a mailbox can only listen and record a message within the mailbox and that indeed may be what has happened.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm not sure what a guest account is, what the restrictions are, etc., as I don't have the manual to help me through this.

However .. I managed to figure out the manager's password and delete/recreate the account. I used Class of Service = 100, mailbox = type 1 when creating the user's account. Hope these are correct.

Thanks again!

Those are the correct settings and I would imagine all is working now?
Now that you have managers password you can reset subscribers mailbox password from it via the phone if needed. And if you had did that for this user and it corrected issue for sure what they did was set password for secretary or guest in the mailbox.

Anyway glad to hear it is fixed and sorry to hear about previous manager. Blessings to their family and fellow workers.

When you add a mailbox it has options in it for Guests to use the mailbox as well if the user wants them. 1 is the secretary and 2~9 are guests.
When user goes into personal options 3 then selects 2 for access codes it should be prompting them for 1 to listen 2 create/modify and 3 to erase. To change the (owners) password they then would chose 0 after pressing 2 to create/modify. If my memory serves me correct users would go in and not hear/listen to prompts correctly and by accident set up the password for secretary or guest 2 and then hang up thinking they were changing the (owner/users) password. Then when they would access the mailbox the next time with the newly created password they would be able to listen to messages. A guest can send and receive messages from the host only. Secretary can listen to users messages.
Put they will not get the rest of the prompts.
