Our voicemail system is not outputting amy audio, nor can I record into it.

We have an axxessorytalk PC, and all appears to be functioning. When I call an extension, it rolls to voicemail at the correct ring, but there is nothing on the line but silence.

I can pull up the voicemail system from my desk, and can follow the prompts that show on the 6-line display (password, messages, etc) but again there is no audio at all.

I've rebooted the axxessorytalk PC, and checked the cables between the PC and the PCM. Still no joy. Any thoughts?

Hi cwallace! Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. Please take a second to finish filling out your profile with your location and homepage. You will find that the number of techs who respond to your questions will increase dramatically!

Depending on the number of ports your voicemail has, there will be either one or two audio cables running from the AxxessoryTalk PC to the cabinet. These cables are most likely grey in color and they have a metal connector on the end that is commonly referred to as a DB-9 connector. These are a specialized connector that have a lock that locks to the cabinet.

Without these cables, the system will work fine, but no audio will pass from the computer to the cabinet.

Check the cable and make sure you have a good connection. If for some reason the cable has been damaged post back here or send me a PM before replacing it. They are hard to find from after market vendors and very expensive to purchase through Inter-Tel. However if you have to have one, I have two extras that were ordered by mistake.

does anyone have the pinouts for the PCM cable?? or is it a closely guarded inter-tel secret

I know I had a lot of trouble finding one, and when I did it was alot longer then I needed.

They're not hard to pin out as I recall, but because of the proprietary connector that attaches to the cabinet I have always opted against it. Without the lock they come loose anytime someone brushes up against the cabinet.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

We had an old voicemail system with the same hardware and we tried swapping it all out one-by-one with no success. We even had another PCM cable hiding in the bottom of a box, but that didn't work either.

While we were doing this, we had an Inter-Tel rep dispatched to come fix it. He reloaded the audio prompts and it works again!
