Hello,
My boss asked me to have the incoming phone number xxx.xxx.xxxx to only go to a certain extension. I don't even know where to begin and find where this number ends up in the system. Can you give me a few pointers and see where I can program this line to only go to a certain extension?
Thank you.

PS. Right now it appears that that incoming line dumps in to the same devices/application/digit translation as my main numbers. I deduced that by calling tat number and it gets the same prompt as the main numbers.

Then what's the point of this forum? Let me guess. You are a Vendor and are hurting for business. Every time I call my vendor for something seemingly simple I get charged $500. Maybe I'd call them if they didn't charge so much money.

I see you are a moderator but if you don't have anything constructive to add to my question please refrain from posting in my thread.

Thank you,

Thank you,

That is not the point of this forum ...... It is to provide end level user support to end users and technician level support to other techs.

At the moment we are buried with work so your assumption is incorrect.

When someone is looking to do installer level stuff and says "i dont even know where to begin" then advice to contact your vendor is about the most constructive advice you will receive.

If you are being charged $500 for something like this that to a trained tech is extremely simple then i will give you some more constructive advice and tell you to look for another vendor.

I’m not a vendor. I work for a good-sized corporation maintaining their telephone systems. My time is valuable, but my employer encourages participation in on-line forums like this because I take away as much information as I provide. I have saved my company many thousands of dollars by using the advice of forum members, and I hope that I’ve been able return the favor.

A new member, such as yourself, signs in and admits that you have no clue, but expects us to spend our valuable time teaching you about phone systems. I'm sorry, but we all have better things to do. Simply stated, your employer should be paying the labor to program your system, not mine.

Your boss encourages you to be on the forums and help, yet you feel my boss should pay for programming my system. Who said anything about programming? All I wanted to know is where to start looking so I can figure out how this incoming line is handled. Both of you make absolutely no sense. Go to a place called expert exchange and see how it's done fellas.
Have a great day thanks for nothing.

Different forums serve different purposes.

Since this forum was started and is operated by phone techs it is only natural that it is geared toward helping end users and other techs and is not designed to allow non technicians to come here and get free support so some poor tech trying to feed his family loses the work.

There may be other forums designed to do exactly what you need but this is not it.

Good luck on your search.

Another option may be to tell your vendor you would like administrator training.... we are happy to give that level of information to our customers if they have someone willing to learn it.
