Hello I got a call from a company that wants to be able to dial off the screen of their PC by just pointing at records in a Filemaker Pro database.

They would also like a screen pop on incoming calls that will pull the customer records up on the screen wehn the call comes in.

It's been a while since school but I remember we saw it being done. I just don't recall much.

They presently have an old KXTD1232 but know this is going to be a a big changeout. They were asking about using the same phones but I don't think they would break even with the price of the DHLC cards. I'm thinking softphones but SIP or IP?

Any Suggestions?

Thanks!

They couldn't tell me anything concrete and said to talk to the client's programmers. WHen I saw this demo'd in school I thought it would be a very slick application if you could afford it and had the need. It sounds as if no one has taken advantage of the capability though.

We use FileMaker Pro for our customer management database and we have an NCP500 installed in our office. You can use Communication Assistant to dial from the screen be selecting a phone number and pressing the keys setup to dial a phone number. On our system I have it set to Ctrl + D and it dials the number.

Screen pops out of CA are going to be more difficult. We don't do it on our system but I have looked into it a little. There is a third party TAPI plugin for FileMaker that claims to allow screen pops from any PBX. I don't know if it works. There is also a third party plugin that allows contacts in FileMaker to sync to Outlook. Communication Assistant supports screen pops in outlook so if all the FileMaker contact records sync to outlook then you could do screen pops in outlook.

Thanks for the reply Toby! It's good that Communication Assistant has me half way there. You mentioned the possibility of synching Filemaker with Outlook. Do you need an exchange server for this or does each client need synch their own separate .PST?

Do you have a link to the 3rd party software for the TAPI interface and outlook software?

Thanks for the lead on Rander, Brokeda. I'm taking a closer look at their stuff now.
