Well, yer T-1 is probably not NI-2. In theory, setting the PBX to NI-2 when using a 5E or DMS protocol should not be a problem as NI-2 is backwards compatible. In practice however, this is quite often not the case as most central office switches don't use a 'vanilla' form of the Q.931 protocol, they use an edited version to suit their needs. If yer PBX is NI-2 and yer T1 is 5ESS, you may not have any issues, but you want to test local, LD, 800 numbers and Int'l numbers to be sure. All Inter-Tel fones show the callers name by default, but to be sure, the feature code to toggle name on/off is 379.

Bottom line is, you must use NI-2 protocol to receive name on a PRI T1, AND the central office must be configged to send it. If the provider is claiming that this is the case and you are not seeing name, they are probably mistaken.

Just got off the phone with the PaeTec Engineer. He verified it should be NI-2 and not 5ESS. ALso he said he's sending everything that gets transmitted to them - "it's set up so whatever we get we send to you."

I'll try to go about the serial on the T1 card and see if i can see the name coming over. Will the name come through that or jsut the number..? Also if i dial infiniti 379 i get cannot access feature....
Is there a place in DB programming that could have CallerID Name disabled but still allow number?

I'll let you know how i make out with the serial

I tried it via RS-232 but i guess it's an ethernet RS-232 not serial on my T1 Card.

I had an Ethernet - Serial cable which i tried but i failed since the only laptop I have with a serial port is from 1990 and the terminal program on it isn't cutting the mustard.

I've got an email into my installer to see if they can make heads or tails of this. I'm not gonna let it go at the CO sayind "we are sending it" and me not getting it.

I'll post back with any new details.

Thanks!
Andy

I just called the PaeTec NOC and the person there said, woah - i see you ordered name and number but you are just getting number. Let me takea few minutes and switch that for you. (This after the Engineer i was speaking to not 5 minutes before said it was all turned on from his end and if i was still having problems to call the NOC).

Funny how the NOC did a better job then the so called engineer - but could have just been a case of the right arm not knowing what the left is doing.

It's all working now (on NI-2 BTW)

Thanks!

Yup, yours is a typical experience. BTW, the serial port on the T1 card uses the same connection as the serial connections on the processor. The baud rate is 9600.
