I'm still learning about our phone system at the airport. What we have is an option 11. We have two server cards in the system, a "CS" and a "SS". They both have the same model number on the cards. I later learn that the "CS" is the call server, and the "SS" is the signaling server. While programming some phones, I look over at the cabinet and see that the "SS" doesn't have any link or activity lights on the RJ45s. They are not lit up at all, and no blinking. Then I look towards the upper LEDs and see one of them is red. Obviously, this is a problem, but I don't have any other indication of problems. All of the calls are processed. Things roll to VM properly. Things seem to be operating as needed. What I'm not clear on is what does this card do? What is it for? Is it needed? Can I just hit the reset button at the top? Do I need to do a full power down?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Rick

The signalling Server is used for IP phones and IP trunks, if you do not have any IP phones or IP trunks deployed then you are probably not using it. It probably got installed as part of an upgrade but it was never configured because it is not being used. If you want to you can press the reset button on the faceplate to see if it comes up after about 5-10 minutes, you should be able to plug into one of the rs-232 ports hanging off of it to watch it boot up.

Thank you, I really appreciate the help. As far as I know, we don't have any IP phones or trunks. So, I think we're safe by leaving it as is, until our next maintence period.
Thanks again,
Rick
