A customer v.5.2f9 says her phone (IDS M18) keeps getting calls when other people's msg lights are lit. Their light is lit, they hit the button and-it calls her, not always, 4-5x a week. She says it's from people she hasn't called and has not hit her msg button when she's made calls. The "answer" page says hitting her button on a call is "most likely the reason" What other reasons are there?

None. She or someone wanting to make her think she is doing it, is doing it.

It sounds like a camp on situation. When the person with the lit msg light attempts to get the message, does it call her extension? If so, she has called that extension, gotten no answer, and initiated a camp on. I'm not familiar with V5 so I'd suggest ready the manual. You could shorten the camp on timer.

I pretty sure I've experienced what you describe before. And from what I can tell, there are two scenarios which will produce this result.
1. Station1 calls Station2, Station2 is not answered and procedes to voicemail. Station1 hangs up before leaving a voicemail. Depending on where they were in the voicemail prompt, Station2 will have a blinking message light that, when pressed calls Station1.
2. I'm not exactly sure how this scenario is invoked. Station1 calls Station2, after Station2 not answering the display on Station1 lists two options: "Leave a voicemail" or "Leave a message". If I remember correctly, if Station1 presses "Leave a message" Station2 will have a blinking message light which when pressed will call Phone1.
In any case, if you have a blinking message light that, when pressed, calls another station, use the following: Special and/or infinity button and then 368 == clear messages
I hope this helps someone, it was a giant pain in my *** the first time I came across it.
