Do they still make drop wire? Would it handle DSL? I guess it would,but the only residential wiring I've seen recently has been multi-pair. Not sure why. Cheaper, maybe?

Cheaper in that if they need to add a line later, it saves them stringing another one.

Around here it's usually just 2 pair that they install for residence. Business usually is 2, 6 or 12 pair, unless larger is needed.

I have saved a few old drop wires that I've had to replace or remove as they do come in handy for short drops and making spudgers and finger wheel removal tools, although seldom needed any more.

I hate it when the cross-connects are banjo'd. Seems like old telco techs would terminate the cross-connects so tight you could play on song on them.

Not the good ones. The only ones here that did that were some CLECs when they did store and forward dialers and 1FBs. Those guys weren't trained worth a darn.
