I have a client that is looking to upgrade their phone system and has a feature that he "must have" he has it on the old system he has.
When the auto attendant transfers a caller to an extension, the caller is asked to say there name. When the called extension gets the call, they hear that name and then can make a decision to take the call or let it go to voice mail.
Can the NEC DSX do this?
Thanks Walter

Dans, Are you sure? "call screening" from what I read in the manual is NOT, what I am describing above. It is more like answering machine emulation, it also only works when the phone is idle. I called NEC tech support and they said "Screened Transfer" was the way to go, after reading about that, that too is not what I am describing above.
Am I missing something here?
Thanks Walter

Walter
I know just what your talking about , when you dial the extension number it says something like "please state your name " then it puts you on hold and sends the extension a message that says "call from SKIP " do you wish to except and the user can press a key to accept the call , if not it tells the caller the user is unavailable and sends them to the mailbox
Ive always thought that was pretty lame
I just looked through the intra mail docs and I don't see anything like it looks like screening comes closest
I cant remember which VM it was that did that , I'm thinking maybe Panasonic ?

Always been a std feature of Intra Mail in DSX.
"A user’s keyset can work like a home answering machine. This lets IntraMail screen their calls, just like their answering machine at home. If activated, the extension’s incoming calls route to the user’s Subscriber Mailbox. Once the mailbox answers, the user hears two alert tones followed by the caller’s incoming message. The keyset user can then:
Let the call go through to their mailbox, or Intercept the call."
The caller is unaware of of this activity.

the problem with it is some callers don't want to go to VM and won't leave a message they will hang up when they hear the greeting or 0 out. with the voice announce the caller is more likely to hang on and see what happens

Thanks Skip, Gees, am getting older and a bit burnt these days : ) just wanted to make sure I can still read Telekol, Inter tel and a few others had this feature back in the day. Xorcom to has it now and that's the direction the client is going. Really love Xorcom, awesome company, but you reall need to be an IT person to get into that game. Walter

We never liked this feature so we didn't provide it.
