Hi. I am brand new to the forum so I am just learning things here. I have a NEC Dterm Series E. I bought in unknowing that it needed a PBX to use. However, I would like to use it. What system would be the best to get this to operate? Ideally I would like a Key Telephone System since it is more DIY than larger systems. I really would like to only use one phone with the system. I have always been fascinated by these systems and now I would finally like to get this to work. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can probably find a used elite 48 online for couple of hundred bucks or less. Manuals are available online and the IPK product line uses the same program structure. If you want to learn something modern, go to the SL1100 website and view the installation videos, they are open to the public. https://www.necsl1100.com/Resources.htmlD

Thanks. I much prefer a newer system. I will look more into the system, but just to make sure, I can use my Dterm Series E with the Sl1100, correct?

Actually, what I want to do is this, and even if it sounds crazy, here it is:
I do not want the PBX to power the house. I do not want to connect it to a 66 block. I have one bedroom upstairs that I use for my office. It has one phone jack. I want to connect one end of the PBX to the jack to receive the outside line and the other end to the phone. Is this possible? I know that these are mainly connected with a cable to a 66 block for the wiring, but is there any way to do it this way?
Thanks for your help.

Okay... You can connect an outside line to a PBX to a single multi-line set and make it work, yes.
Also, the Dterm series E will work on Electra Elite B2-48, Electra Elite 192, Electra Elite IPK, Electra Elite IPK2, 1000 IVS, 1400 IVS, 2000 IVS2, 2000 IPS, 2400 IMS, 2400 IMX, and 2400 IPX.
That is in order from simplest to most complex. There may be a few others that I've missed.
Now... Here's the thing... If you have one line in and one phone, you're missing 99% of the function of a PBX. The original idea of a PBX was to be able to use a few outside lines with many, many extensions. You can't conference call, you can't call transfer, you can't group ring, you can't all-page, you can't use ARS, you can't set delay rings.
If it's a toy, and you're just going to play with it, and that's it, then by all means, enjoy. But I have to tell you that you could do a lot more with a lot less, for a lot cheaper.
BTW, your PBX needs to have a CO card also, for the outside line, and if it's anything OTHER than a B2-48, you need a card for the Digital extension to power the DTerm.

Thanks for your response. Yeah, it would be more of a toy than an actual system for use. With the most simplest choice, the Electra Elite 48, would I need to connect it to the 66 block? You mentioned something about a single multi line set? Would this be to connect it to a wall jack? Sorry if I sound like an idiot. I am just not that good in the technical aspect of the initial installation.

A Dterm is a type of phone known as a multi-line set or a digital set.
The B2-48 has connections known as "Amphenol" connectors. You would need an amphenol cable -- at least one -- to hook everything up. This is a 25-pair cable. If you know the color code, you could install two jacks directly to the appropriate pairs of wires, and then hook one jack to the wall (where your incoming line connects) and plug your DTerm into the other.
This would be very crude, and any phone guy who looked at it would roll his eyes. Or laugh. Or cry.
The right way to do it would be to use a 66-block, and then cross-connect the 66-block to your existing telephone wiring (station cables, i.e phone wiring) to reach the jack on the wall that you want to use for your DTerm.

Thanks. So essentially what I would do is this. Connect the amphenol cable. I would have the wires coming out of the stripped end, correct? Then I would using the color code connect the phone jacks. One jack I would plug the telephone line going into the wall into the amphenol wired jack. Then I would plug one line cord into the Dterm and the other end would go into the last Amphenol wired jack. This is how I am getting on how you would do this. PLEASE tell me if this is wrong!!! Thanks for all of your help. I really appreciate it!!

Hi guys, I was just on ebay and i found this Nec Electra Elite B48 U10 for sale. It is offered for $9.95. It appears to have all of the cards. Does it look like a good deal or do you guys think something is wrong with it to be offered for such a low price? Take a Look: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEC-ELECTR...ne_Switching_Systems&hash=item5af256298bThanks for all of your help!!
