Hi,

The company I work for is currently using the NEC Electra Elite IPK for our phone system. I'm looking to replacing this with a VOIP system, but before I would like to know if this is upgradable to VOIP. If its possible, what hardware and software is needed beside an IP phone.

I'm new to NEC type phone system, so any suggestion will be helpful. Thanks in advance!

If it's a small system maybe a SL1100. 16 SIP trunks and 32 IP terminals(US I believe) or better still the SV8100. 200 trunks / 128 SIP trunks and 512 IP terminals. Bet to talk to your local NEC reseller and have a demo. There's been quite a change since the old Elite systems came out..

I would go with the 8100 platform. Better product with much better support.

SL can be installed and served by anyone... I mean anyone. Be prepared to deal with people that have no clue.

Be prepared for sticker shock. It's about %500 per phone for voip.

Why do you think you need VoIP?

Because it's the "buzz word" that all the consultants are pushing and if you don't go VOIP then you're back in the rotary dial days. I see it here where I work all the time.

Then explain the difference and educate people on VOIP vs. Digital. We do about 2/3 of our IP office systems using digital phones. It just depends on what the customer needs.
