I recently acquired a payphone that was listed as Protel 7000 model, however the received phone only has Ernest Telecom stickers all over the insides and there is no model number that I can locate. This is my first encounter with servicing and setting up a payphone for personal use. Would someone be able to help me sort this out and get the phone up and ruining.

Thank you

I did the same thing a few years back with a Protel, they work great.
First thing you will need to do is drill the locks out if you don't have the keys.

Mdaniel, I have the keys for the phone, I will need to find another receiver for it as the one came with it is broken in half, not sure whether it was damaged in shipping or was like that initially. According to seller s description, it was supposed to be new old stock. Labels indicate manufacturing date of 2000 inside the phone. Is it Protel?? Or Ernest Telecom ??

I could have saved you the trouble. I have two sitting here collecting dust. Just haven't had the time to list them on ePay yet.

Both working, modified for home use. Were set up to use at a local fair as they got sick & tired of paying Bell $250 each/month plus installation charges. Just wanted the people to stay out of the office, so I set these up behind a system with toll restrictions etc. Was quite funny to sit back & watch the patrons plunk in their quarters when all they had to do was lift the receiver & dial. bananalove

They're in good shape. Have extra coin boxes and both keys to remove the housings and coin boxes. Units are Nortel QSD2400 series; one black and one brown.

Eventhough the phone will be used at home setting, I still want it to accept incoming calls and make paid outgoing calls.

OK, so the phone is actually turns out to be an Ernest Telecom. And I'm most likely going to keep it after replacing the damaged handset in shipping. My questions are:

I'm not sure of exact model number of it, how to find it?

Is this a good reliable long lasting phone?

How to program it?

Currently, it seems to dial out 7 digit local calls unlimited time or at least 7 mins that i had a call active for,for a quarter, 10 digit it asks $2.65 for 4 mins.
I really need a few area codes to work with a quarter, is this possible out that would apply to all 10 digit numbers?

How expensive is it to maintain one down a road of a few years?

Thanks

I seem to recall that Ernest Telecom COCOTs were sold exclusively through Amway distributors. I can't say this with certainty, but we did a ton of installations for them and all were sold by Amway people.

Regardless, I'm sure that the people at www.payphone.com can help you with anything that you need. They provide all kinds of parts and support. I've dealt with them many times and have had great results.

Thanks, Ed. Ive seen some post that people were referring to downloading a software through which the phone can be managed, however I do not recal anything about the cable to connect the phone with pc. Looking around online I saw some phones smart board had a serial port I'm assuming for connecting to the computer. I'm reading just about anything I can find about a similar setup that I want at my place.
Thanks again.
