we have a call pilot system that has been working fine for 1.5 years or so. Yesterday out of no where when you call in the caller hears 2 rings, it sounds like someone picks up a handset > you hear 2 short beeps (to me sounds like a bit of a busy signal)then silence.

call pilot 100. not positive on the model of the system. it's not one of ours. we are being forced to take care of it remotely. the installer will not answer there phone to assist there customer.

Beep vs busy question. It is hard to say for sure. its very quick. To me it sounds like the tail end and very beginning of 2 bust blasts. I would personally call it a busy.

System is Norstar then.

Sounds like "held Reminder" tones.
Busy tones are slowish but you say they are bursts (quick), tough one to decipher.

-Unplug vmail and see if same issue.
-Ask if full AA or backup to AA (and ring count)
-Ask how many phones are to ring/answer inbound calls
-Ask if every rollover line or just 1 line in particular.
-See if doing *73 on each line helps....this cancels any line forward option from carrier.

Outta ammo, for now.
