A recently upgraded AR5.20 MT055.00 CIX670 CPU has three IPUs installed in two cabinets.

The IPTs (5000-series phones) can place outbound calls over the PRI and hear things just fine but the IPT outbound audio is missing. IPT to IPT is a blank call meaning no audio is hear in either direction. Calls to the IES-16 also are silent.

This has occasionally happened in the past, but rebooting the affected phone seemed to resolve the problem. All three of the IPUs, CTX-CPU and some test IPT endpoints have been moved to other switches (a single VLAN) and now are on the same physical switch. Forcing the IPTs to the same or different IPUs does not seem to help at all. There are two LIPU-X 16 cards and one MIPU-16 and they all seem to have the same issues. It can also take a pretty long time to register the devices at times even when they are sitting next to each other (logically and physically). The network is flat and two different switch models/vendors have been tried as well. (Dell 5548 and Cisco 2960S)

Network traffic seems pretty normal and fairly quiet. Change the Peer-to-Peer IPT option makes no difference.

DKT-DKT calls work fine, as do StrataNet calls to other sites for DKT phones. Only the IPT calls are affected. In the past if this happened a reboot of the IPT phone fixed it, but we never could pin it down. Now nothing really makes the IPT calls audible for the other side.

Packet captures show audio G711 traffic, but we haven't learned enough about the Toshiba VOIP signalling to be able to read the traces more effectively.

Are there trace facilities that can help in the Stratagy/IPU setup? We tried going through the IPU logs on the cards through the console ports, but they didn't seem to offer us any real clues. We see the IPT phones register with the IPU and things seem reasonable, except the voice no longer works though the call connects and stays there...

Any suggestions on how to trace things out more effectively, or is there a better way to track this down? The MIPU is about a year old, the LIPU-X cards are several years old.

Thank you,

CoreyMac

Are the IPaddress, Subnet mask and the Default Gateway all set correctly on the MIPU cards and the IPT handsets?

I have has issues when an invalid subnet mask is programmed into the MIPU it would do somethings and not others.

I doubt it would have anything to do with the switches if they are unmanaged.

Have you set any QOS on the network as this can also affect the PDP voice packets but not the registration of the IPT handsets?

Make sure you are on the latest firmware for all the xIPUs and IPTs.

Check the peer to peer setting in IPT data, it is the most common issue for one-way voice path.

Sorry, make sure you reset the phone after the change.
