I apologize in advance for my ignorance, but I'm a Nortel guy who got roped into programming a DSX-40. I'm using DSX System Administrator (way better than anything Nortel has!). Trying to figure out how to allow inbound callers to dial an extension directly after reaching the routing mailbox (801)..e.g. "Thank you for calling ABC Co., if you know your parties extension, please dial it now. For the operator Dial 0". I thought I had it working, but now it's not. I did a workaround via the IntraMail Dial Action Table("Thank you for calling ABC Co., for 302, Dial 2, for 303 Dial 3, for 304 Dial 4, etc.") which is working, but the client doesn't like it...too wordy. Also, the System Administrator doesn't always allow an update (Green Up Arrow) when I try to make changes...? Not looking for specific instructions, but just a nudge in the right direction. Thanks.

Check dial action table 1 (by default it is assign to routing box 801) digit 3 should be set for UTRF routing should have XXX
XXX means you can dial 3 digits.

One more question: Is there any way to take the ringing volume control out of the hands of the user? Some of these "bastids" keep turning their ringers off (they try to turn them down, but go too far), and then they complain that they're not getting calls...?

Sorry Danny, never been asked about ringing volume control, I won't have a answer today, maybe someone else will.

Is it possible the phones are going into DND automatically? Some of the people insist they're not touching the ring vol., although when I check it, it's at "0".

As is with most phone systems, you can limit the user on several items, but ringing volume is not one of them - Some folks just don't belong in an office environment if they are annoyed by a ringing telephone!!

And these are salespeople whose clients are trying to call them?!? Oh well...I just fix phones. Can't fix stupid. Thanks again, all.

Not in front of a system at the moment, but could there possibly be a setting in their COS that would prevent them from adjusting ringing?

At one time you could not turn the volume down all of the way, but there was a feature request for seeing caller ID without the phone ringing. That is when the volume 0 started there is no way to disable it.
