Has anyone had to extend the programming cable beyond 50 feet? if so what did you use... rs232 to rs422?
Thanks

I've extended an RS-232 connection over 1/4 mile of feed cable. It worked, but just barely and would disconnect quite often. Max baud rate was 4800 bps. 50 ft is the listed max, but I would bet 99 percent of the RS-232 extensions I've done are well over that and they mostly work fine. Hurray for IP!

I agree. I think 50 ft was I-T's way of limiting it's support to situations which would not be caused by cable length.
SFG, I've not run a link that far, but we did do a 500+ ft run and ended up using a Lantronix UDS-10 serial to IP converter. That worked well.

Wow, I am surprised. Serial connections are very forgiving. I don't even want to admit some of the very long RS232 runs I have done in the past.

Is it for OAI? If so you could use Inter-Tel's Switch or Application Transceivers. These convert serial to IP and IP to serial, respectively.

I extended the programming port on a Mitel SX200 EL using some rs232 to rs485 convertors and a null modem adapter all of which I got off ebay. I ran it through a 1000' box of cable and had no problem connecting at 9600bps. YRMV
