when dialing out from analog extention
pick up phone press 9 wait a sec for dialtone
dial number get recording the number i have dialed is invalid
regular digital extension work fine
figure its something simple
any help would be appreciated

sounds like you have the analog phone connected to an apt with a tee adapter and that apt has idle c.o. access set so when you go off hook you are already on a line. so when the central office receives 9 and anything but 911 you will get a "you can not complete this call as dialed" Shawn
