I would appreciatte any help I could get with this.Below is a brief description of my problem.
Ext.235 repeatedly tries to call Ext.234 Here's what happens
(1)Message on 235 display appears: Calling Kathy along with a later option
(2)Message on 235 says ext.not in service (it isn't actually it is assigned to a dead port)
(3)there is a pause of a few seconds
(4) it then repeats starting with (1)
this all started when someone pressed some keys but they don't know which ones of course.

Better info is needed.

x235 says Calling
x235 says not in service
And if assigned a dead port how can it say anything ?

Does not make sense.

Sounds like a place to start is Ext 235. Check to see if there is a speed dial button for 234 (Kathy). Verify with F*0. If so, it may be stuck.

If I understand right, Ext 234 is a dead port or with nothing connected anymore, thus saying "Not in Service".

Yup, look for a stuck button that is programmed for 234.
If this happens when 235 receives a call, try cancelling call forward.

"M" series phones were famous for this, as stated above, find the key that is programmed for extension 234 & pull key cap off - check that the plastic around the key cap is smooth with nothing sticking out - file down if so - also check if not using the Nortel labels under the key cap, there may be some paper coming down the sides inside the key cap spreading it out & causing it to stick - either way, this is definitely a stuck button.
