Nope, I'm living in my house that I physically built by myself. Footer to roof. Can you tell why I want to do a phone system myself? Can't is not a word in my vocabulary.

perhaps "shouldn't" should be in your vocabulary.
I tend to think I can do anything too and I can do quite a bit ...eventually but you have to ask what is your time worth trying to learn a new trade by trail and error .

how much can / should your employers business suffer as you try to configure by trial and error and will there really be an savings when they pay you to spend 3-4 hours figuring out something most of us would bill 20 minutes to accomplish

This is starting to go in circles. Good advice has been given, it's totally up to you to take it or disregard it. I see no reason to let this continue.
