First some history. A few months ago I couldn't login in to the PBX as it wouldn't take my password (I had left it at default) so I defaulted and performed a sw upgrade. All was okay till last week. Now, immediately after logging in as installer on site via the Ethernet port I get "Connection disconnected. Press refresh to connect." I've also recently lost the ability to connect via the modem remotely. It did connect once recently but showed odd characters like the baud rate was wrong but unable to connect again. Power cycling the modem didn't help. I can dial up other SX200s ok. Am I loosing my processor? Any suggestions?

Seeing garbled characters appear in the Form(s) should be taken as an ominous warning sign. Database corruption may have been overwriting your installer password, and if so likely overwriting other database fields too. My first thought would be the hard drive, especially if it's a Maxtor. They're not hard to get to in the case. Hook it up to a laptop with an ATA adaptor (readily available on Newegg) and download Hard Disk Sentinel Pro (trial) and read the health of the drive. Mitel will happily sell you one for $250 but I just buy the same drive from Newegg and ghost an image to it.

Thanks Hacky. Not the answer I wanted to hear but I think you are right. Actually the HD is a Hitachi DeskStar 80G IDE and is a July 2008 vintage. Thanks again.

In the shop we call those "Death Stars". They were ok when IBM made them but for some reason when Hitachi bought IBM the desk star was no longer a good hard drive. I would bet good money your problem lies there. Good luck
